One Supplier, Fewer Headaches: Why Combine OHS and Electrical Inspections Under One Contract
When a business needs to address both the technical condition of its electrical installation and occupational health & safety, it typically means two different suppliers, two contracts, two schedules, and two points of contact. At first glance, this might seem like a flexible approach – “we have an electrician for the electrical side and a safety officer for OHS.” In practice, however, it often leads to unnecessary costs, administrative chaos, and, most importantly, the risk that the two areas won’t be aligned. Combining both areas under a single provider isn’t just convenient – it’s an economically rational step that genuinely saves companies money.
Two Worlds That Must Meet
Electrical inspections and OHS are not separate disciplines. An employer’s obligations under the Labour Code (§ 101–108 of Act No. 262/2006 Coll.) also include the safe condition of technical equipment. When a certified electrical inspector finds a fault on a switchboard, it’s not just an “electrician’s problem” – it’s a basis for updating the risk register, assessing employee hazards, and often for deciding on operational measures. If this information doesn’t flow smoothly between suppliers, a gap is created, and the responsibility for it always lies with the operator – that is, you.
Furthermore, Act No. 250/2021 Coll. on occupational safety for designated technical equipment stipulates fines of up to CZK 2,000,000. This is not an empty threat – labour inspectorate checks specifically focus on whether OHS documentation and inspection reports form a consistent whole. When each document is created in a different company using a different system, discrepancies are almost guaranteed.
One Schedule Instead of Two Diaries
Every inspection has its own interval. For electrical installations in an office environment, according to ČSN 33 1500, this is usually 5 years; for production areas with higher risk, the interval may be shorter. Lightning protection systems (LPS) are inspected according to ČSN EN 62305-1 to 4 depending on the protection level – for LPL I and II every 2 years, for LPL III and IV every 4 years, with a visual inspection even every year. Add to this appliance and handheld tool testing according to ČSN 33 1600 ed. 2, periodic OHS and fire safety training, training for electricians according to NV 194/2022 Coll., and deadlines for updating fire safety documentation…
If you have two suppliers, you must track these inspection intervals yourself. A single provider covering both electrical installation inspections and OHS for companies maintains a unified schedule. The result is less downtime – all necessary tasks can be coordinated into a single technician’s visit to the site. Instead of two trips, two operational disruptions, and two sets of paperwork, everything happens at once. The savings on overhead costs are direct and easily quantifiable.
OHS Outsourcing: Everything One Partner Handles
When people hear “OHS outsourcing,” many companies imagine just a paper-based safety officer who signs a binder once a year. The actual scope is significantly broader and includes activities that directly intersect with electrical inspections:
- Processing and updating OHS documentation – risk register, work categorisation according to Act No. 258/2000 Coll., PPE guidelines, traumatological plan. If a certified electrical inspector identifies an electrical risk, it is immediately reflected in the risk register without you having to chase two suppliers.
- Employee training – from initial to periodic, including training for instructed persons (§4 NV No. 194/2022 Coll.) and electricians (§6). One supplier ensures that the training content corresponds to the actual state of the electrical equipment in the company.
- Workplace inspections – regular OHS checks that uncover deficiencies before an inspectorate finds them.
- Occupational accident records – from 1 January 2026, newly electronic via the SÚIP portal according to Act No. 318/2025 Coll. The OHS service provider handles this agenda as well.
- Fire safety – classification into fire hazard categories, fire safety documentation, training of preventive fire patrols and managing employees (3-year period), inspections of fire safety equipment.
When all these activities are covered by a single entity, there is no more forwarding of documents, explaining context, or waiting for a response from the other party. For the company, it means one partner, one phone number, and one contract.
The Cost of a Separate Approach
It’s not just about the money on the invoices. The hidden costs of two suppliers are harder to calculate, but they are real:
- Management time – each supplier requires separate communication, briefings, and output checks. With two contracts, the time spent on administration is at least doubled.
- Schedule conflicts – if an electrical inspection uncovers a fault just after OHS training has taken place, you must either retrain or risk that employees are not demonstrably familiar with the current risks.
- Extra travel costs – two suppliers = two site visits. One provider combines multiple tasks into a single visit, which is reflected in the total price.
To give you an idea: a standalone electrical installation inspection for a smaller facility starts at around CZK 2,500, an LPS inspection ranges from CZK 1,000 to 3,000 depending on the scope, and appliance and tool testing costs around CZK 80–140 per item. OHS outsourcing on a monthly flat fee starts at around CZK 1,500, depending on the number of employees and risk level. When these items are bundled with one supplier, duplications are eliminated, and the total price is usually lower than the sum of separate invoices. Legislation Changes – You Shouldn’t Have to Change Suppliers
The year 2025 brought a new ČSN 33 2130 ed. 4 for internal electrical wiring, and 2026 brings electronic accident reporting. Implementing regulations for Act No. 250/2021 Coll. are changing, certified electrical inspectors’ certificates are valid for 3 years according to NV No. 194/2022 Coll. (not the previous 5 years), and group E4 has been abolished – today, there are scopes E1, E2, and E3, where E2A covers low voltage and E3A covers LPS.
Keeping track of these changes is a full-time job. If you have one supplier specialising in both electrical inspections and OHS/fire safety, you don’t need to worry about whether your documentation complies with current regulations – the provider bears the responsibility for compliance. And you have the certainty that during any inspection, you will present complete and interconnected documentation where the inspection reports correspond with the risk register and training records.
