One provider, fewer worries: why combine workplace safety and electrical inspections under one contract
Managing both the condition of electrical installations and workplace safety typically means two different providers, two contracts, two schedules, and two points of contact. At first glance, this may seem like a flexible approach: “We have an electrician for electrical work and a safety specialist for workplace safety.” In practice, however, it often leads to unnecessary costs, administrative confusion, and, most importantly, the risk that the two areas will not be properly aligned. Bringing both services under one provider is not merely convenient—it is a financially sound decision that can deliver real savings.
Two areas that must work together
Electrical inspections and workplace safety are not separate disciplines. An employer’s obligations under zákoník práce (§ 101–108 zákona č. 262/2006 Sb.) also include ensuring that technical equipment is safe. When an inspection technician identifies a fault in a switchboard, it is not merely “the electrician’s problem.” The finding must inform updates to the risk register, assessments of risks to employees, and often decisions about operational measures. If this information does not flow smoothly between providers, a gap emerges—and responsibility for that gap always rests with the operator: you.
Zákon č. 250/2021 Sb. o bezpečnosti práce u vyhrazených technických zařízení also provides for penalties of up to CZK 2,000,000. This is not an idle threat: labour inspections focus specifically on whether workplace safety documentation and inspection reports form a consistent whole. When each document is prepared by a different company using a different system, discrepancies are almost inevitable.
One schedule instead of two calendars
Every inspection has its own deadline. For electrical installations in office environments, the interval under ČSN 33 1500 is usually five years; in higher-risk production facilities, it may be shorter. Lightning protection systems are inspected under ČSN EN 62305-1 až 4 according to their protection class—every two years for LPL I and II and every four years for LPL III and IV, with a visual inspection required annually. Add to this inspections of electrical appliances and hand tools under ČSN 33 1600 ed. 2, periodic workplace safety and fire protection training, training for electrical personnel under NV č. 194/2022 Sb., and deadlines for renewing fire protection documentation.
With two providers, you must keep track of all these deadlines yourself. A single provider covering both electrical installation inspections and workplace safety services for companies maintains one integrated schedule. This means less downtime, as all necessary work can be coordinated into a single visit to the premises. Instead of two call-outs, two interruptions to operations, and two sets of paperwork, everything is handled at once. The savings in overhead costs are direct and easy to quantify.
Workplace safety outsourcing: what one partner can handle
When companies hear “workplace safety outsourcing,” many imagine little more than a safety specialist who signs a folder once a year. The actual scope is much broader and includes activities directly related to electrical inspections:
- Preparation and updating of workplace safety documentation – the risk register, work categorisation under zákon č. 258/2000 Sb., personal protective equipment guidelines, and the emergency medical response plan. If an inspection technician identifies an electrical hazard, it can be added to the risk register immediately, without you having to coordinate two providers.
- Employee training – from induction to periodic training, including training for instructed persons (§4 NV č. 194/2022 Sb.) and electrical personnel (§6). A single provider ensures that the training content reflects the actual condition of the company’s electrical equipment.
- Workplace inspections – regular workplace safety audits that identify shortcomings before an inspector does.
- Occupational accident records – from 1 January 2026, these must be submitted electronically through the SÚIP portal under zákon č. 318/2025 Sb. A workplace safety service provider can handle this agenda as well.
- Fire protection – classification by fire hazard category, fire protection documentation, training for preventive fire patrols and managerial staff (every three years), and inspections of fire safety equipment.
When all these activities are managed by one organisation, there is no need to forward documents, repeatedly explain the context, or wait for a response from another party. For the company, this means one partner, one phone number, and one contract.
The cost of using separate providers
It is not just about the amounts shown on invoices. The hidden costs of using two providers are harder to calculate, but they are real:
- Management time – each provider requires separate communication, instructions, and review of deliverables. With two contracts, the time spent on administration at least doubles.
- Misaligned schedules – if an electrical inspection reveals a fault shortly after workplace safety training has taken place, you must either repeat the training or risk being unable to prove that employees were informed of the current hazards.
- Additional travel costs – two providers mean two call-outs. One provider can combine several tasks into a single visit, reducing the total price.
As a guide, a standalone electrical installation inspection for a small facility starts at approximately CZK 2,500. Depending on the scope, a lightning protection inspection costs around CZK 1,000–3,000, while inspections of electrical appliances and tools cost approximately CZK 80–140 per item. Workplace safety outsourcing on a monthly retainer starts at around CZK 1,500, depending on the number of employees and the level of risk. When these services are combined with one provider, duplicated work is eliminated, and the total price is usually lower than the sum of separate invoices. Legislation changes—but you should not have to change providers
The year 2025 brought the new ČSN 33 2130 ed. 4 for internal electrical installations, while 2026 introduces electronic occupational accident records. Implementing regulations relating to zákon č. 250/2021 Sb. are changing, inspection technicians’ certificates are valid for five years under § 11 odst. 3 zákona č. 250/2021 Sb., and group E4 has been abolished. The current scopes are E1, E2, and E3, with E2A covering low-voltage systems and E3A covering lightning protection systems.
Keeping track of these changes is a full-time job.
