A certificate’s three-year validity period usually ends at the worst possible time—mid-project, during the holiday season, or while someone is working at an installation site three hundred kilometres away. Sending four electricians away for an entire day just to renew their certificates means four non-billable days plus travel expenses.
That is why we offer online recertification. It is not a shortened version of the exam: the content, the 80% pass mark, and the three-member panel remain the same. The only difference is that you take the test on a computer and appear before the panel by video call. This article explains what the process involves in practice—what to submit in advance, how the exam works, and when an online exam is not sufficient. For deadlines and tracking certificate validity within a company, see our article on renewing and retesting electrical competence.
Quick answer
You can complete the recertification exam for an electrical professional under § 6 or a senior electrical professional under § 7 online with us: the written test takes place in an app, followed by an oral interview by video call with a three-member examination panel chaired by an electrical inspection technician—as required by § 6 odst. 3 and § 7 odst. 4 nařízení vlády č. 194/2022 Sb. The price is CZK 1,400 per person excluding VAT.
Under § 19 odst. 2 písm. b) zákona č. 250/2021 Sb., the new certificate is valid for three years from its date of issue. Online exams are available for renewing a certificate that the candidate has already obtained—a new (first) § 6 or § 7 certificate must be completed in person with us, because it includes training covering the activities to be performed.
When it is time for recertification
The validity period starts on the certificate’s date of issue—not at the end of the calendar year or on the date of training. It therefore makes sense to schedule the exam four to six weeks in advance. This leaves time to deliver the required documents, arrange a retake if necessary, and account for situations where the entire team is unavailable at the same time.
The consequences of an expired certificate can be described precisely—the regulation explicitly addresses this situation. Under § 5 odst. 2 NV 194/2022 Sb., a qualified person is professionally competent to work on electrical equipment within the scope of the issued certificate. Once the certificate expires, § 4 odst. 1 states that a qualified person whose recertification has expired is also regarded as an instructed person—and that the same person may regain qualified-person status after successfully passing the exam.
In practice, this means that someone with an expired certificate does not lose all classification, but their permitted activities are reduced to those defined for an instructed person in § 4 odst. 4: independent operation, work according to instructions on de-energised extra-low-voltage and low-voltage equipment, and supervised work on high-voltage equipment. Independent work as an electrical professional under § 6 odst. 1 requires a valid certificate and is limited to its stated scope.
What remains the same online and in person
The subject matter of the training and exam is defined by § 9 odst. 1 NV 194/2022 Sb. in four areas: obligations arising from occupational health and safety regulations relevant to the activity, knowledge of first aid—particularly following electric shock—work and technological procedures including sources and causes of risks, and other essential matters affecting occupational and operational safety.
Under § 9 odst. 2, the exam has two parts: a written test containing at least 10 questions covering the first two areas and an oral interview addressing the test result, any mistakes made, and technical topics relevant to the candidate’s scope and specialisation. Under § 19 odst. 2 písm. c) zákona č. 250/2021 Sb., candidates are graded as either pass or fail. They may proceed to the oral part only after passing the written part, and at least 80% of the answers must be correct in each part.
The panel and the final paperwork also remain the same. Under § 9 odst. 4, the chair of the panel prepares, conducts, and evaluates the exam, draws up the record prescribed in příloha č. 3 with the signatures of all panel members and the candidate, arranges for it to be retained for six to seven years, and issues the certificate prescribed in příloha č. 2 on behalf of the legal entity where the exam is taken—in this case, SOHE s.r.o.

How it works step by step
- Application. Contact us using the non-binding enquiry form and select “Školení a zkoušky elektro” in the form. State the number of people, the level required (§ 6 or § 7), the issue date of the current certificate, and the scope stated on it.
- Confirmation and documents. We will send confirmation of the date, a list of required documents, and instructions for submitting them—including how the exam record is signed.
- Test in the app. The written part covers regulations and first aid. It is evaluated immediately—the law allows candidates to proceed to the oral interview only after passing the test.
- Video call with the panel. You need a computer with a camera and microphone, a reliable internet connection, and a quiet place. Keep your identity document close at hand. The interview is not a formality: we revisit mistakes from the test and ask about the equipment and procedures you actually work with, within the scope assigned to the panel by § 9 odst. 2 písm. b).
- Result and certificate. The chair of the panel prepares the exam record and issues a new certificate defining the scope of professional competence.
- Records and reminder. We record the issue date and contact you with available dates before the three-year validity period ends. We retain the exam record for six to seven years.
Documents: what to submit in advance
This is the only area where the online format differs organisationally from an in-person exam. Under § 9 odst. 5 písm. a) NV 194/2022 Sb., before the exam begins, the applicant must present the chair of the panel with a document proving their professional or vocational qualification, either as the original or an officially certified copy. An emailed scan does not meet this requirement. For an online exam, you must therefore deliver the document in advance; we will send the procedure and address in the application confirmation.
You should also prepare:
- Your current § 6 or § 7 certificate—to verify its issue date and scope. We also accept certificates issued by another company.
- Evidence of professional experience—under § 9 odst. 5 písm. b), the duration of professional experience must be documented by an employer’s confirmation or the candidate’s statutory declaration.
- An additional education document if the qualification document does not clearly show that it concerns electrical education—the authorised issuer is specified in § 9 odst. 5 písm. c).
- Information about any change in the scope of work. If the person now performs different work than they did three years ago, tell us in advance. Under § 6 odst. 6—or § 7 odst. 7 for a senior electrical professional—the examination panel may limit the certificate’s scope according to the activities actually performed.
What happens if you do not pass the test
Under § 19 odst. 2 písm. c) zákona č. 250/2021 Sb., an applicant whose overall result is graded as a fail may take the exam again, but no sooner than 15 days after the unsuccessful attempt. The law does not limit the number of retakes.
Fifteen days is the statutory minimum, not necessarily our next available date—bear this in mind, particularly if your certificate expires in a week. The price of a retake is agreed individually. If you would rather not take the test unprepared, you can first work through the practice questions for the § 6 and § 7 exam and identify any gaps before the panel does.
When an online exam is not sufficient
- First certificate. Anyone who has never held a § 6 or § 7 certificate must take the exam with us in person, with training and the exam completed on the same date.
- Change of scope. Under § 6 odst. 5, the scope is determined by voltage—up to 1 kV AC or 1.5 kV DC, or without limitation—and by the type of equipment, meaning equipment in areas with or without an explosion hazard. If you need a different scope from the one stated on your current certificate, contact us in advance. Based on the submitted documents, we will assess whether this is a renewal within the original scope or an exam covering a different scope—we do not make that decision blindly on behalf of the panel.
- Instruction of persons under § 4. This follows a different procedure from an exam: it consists of instruction and verification of knowledge. Under § 4 odst. 3, a written record must be prepared that defines the scope and specifies the workplace. We conduct this at your company using your equipment.
- Conditions on the candidate’s side. Anyone without a camera, microphone, and a place where they will not be disturbed should attend a scheduled in-person session instead. An interview before the panel cannot be conducted while driving.
